Blåfjell – My First Yoke Knitwear

Did I mention that I cast on another project? This time, a yoke jumper.

I came across this pattern on Skeindeer Knits podcast on YouTube, and I knew it was the perfect pattern for some stash busting. I have a 500g cone of Jamieson and Smith 2ply jumper weight in Natural I bought on a whim last December; a colour I don’t usually gravitate towards. I combined it with Cascade 220 Fingering in Mauve Orchid and Plum (from my Box of Spices shawl) for a swatch, and it looked good, so I proceeded to cast it on because … well, why not 😉?

Swatch on 3.25mm needles.

It became another commute knitting as the repeats are straightforward enough. Now the yoke is finished and blocked (I think Eli – the designer – mentioned blocking yokes before continuing in one of her podcasts, but can’t remember her reason; may be it’s to do with fitting). Since I don’t fancy the neckline, I cast on for the largest size with a view to making the neck wider, and then proceeded for my size as prescribed. In hindsight, I should have done a provisonal cast on, but I didn’t know I could do that. If that doesn’t work, taking out the ribbing shoudn’t be a problem, hopefully.

Now on to endless stocking stitch 🙂.

Thanks for stopping by, and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

    1. Thank you, Katie. Where do you get your vintage patterns from? The sleeves on my Tortoise and Hare top currently stand at my elbows and remind me of the 1940’s fitted top you showed on Getting Podcast, and I like it. May be I’ll stop there.
